Work is finally about to start on an ambitious plans to transform Aldershot’s derelict Ice Rink into Europe’s top Gymnastics Centre.

The £200,000 project - once branded a waste of money by Lottery executives - will see the building in Pool Road become home to the new Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy.
The academy, currently named Camberley Gymnastics Club, will be moving from its base at Old Dean, Camberley, in July.
It hopes the move will help boost its 250-strong membership to more than 1,000
Aldershot MP Gerald Howarth presented the group with a £19,800 cheque from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts on Friday.
And because the academy is a registered charity, it can claim a further £10,000 from the Inland Revenue.
The cash will be used to buy safety landing pits and other international standard equipment.
Club founder and coach Colin Wright thanked the Foundation for its support.
"People can practise their new skills without hurting themselves thanks to this facility," he said.
"It's the biggest part of the project and the Foundation has provided a huge impetus to move it forwards.
"We're hoping that the new centre will enable us to cater for a greater number of children and that it will be one of the best facilities in Europe."
The academy will be the first group to use the 24,000sq ft building since the old ice-rink closed in 1991.
An application for Lottery funding for the project was rejected in 1997 because it was not considered to be good value for money.
It was a decision Mr Howarth described as "outrageous".
He added: "This is an imaginative decision by the Foundation to support a non-commercial operation that will add to the range of facilities we have to offer in this area.
"This building has been derelict for a number of years and to bring it back into use for gymnastics is extremely good news.
Surrey Heath MP Nick Hawkins was also present to lend his support.
He said: "While I am sorry that the club is not going to be in Camberley, I do understand that this is a bigger building with better facilities.
"I am delighted that the club is going from strength to strength."
