September Newsletter, 2008
WELCOME
To all of our new members starting their first term of gymnastics, a very
warm welcome to the RGA. You have joined a club with one of the finest
facilities in the U.K. and a coaching staff whose expertise is second
to none.
To all of our present members, welcome back and we trust that you have
kept up your fitness levels during the summer vacation with lots of ‘Active
rest’ or with the Squad Training which has been ongoing.
THE BEIJING OLYMPIC GAMES
Many of you will have been thrilled and inspired by the stunning
performances of the gymnasts in Beijing. Our very own ‘Olympian’
Claire finished in 10th place in the Trampoline competition after two
fantastic routines.
Colin and Bernie were there in person and have come home full of tales
about what an amazing experience it all was. If you have aspirations for
Olympic glory, Claire would have only two words of advice: ’Work
Hard!’
STAFFING
August saw the retirement of Nikolai who has retired back to his native
Bulgaria where we understand his wife Sneja has a list of jobs that will
keep him busy until at least Christmas. We are delighted to say that Nikolai
has already agreed to return to us for Easter and Summer Camps in 2009,
where his considerable expertise will be much appreciated.
We have also promoted two members of staff and given them increased responsibilities
within the Club.
Plamen Lichev will take on the newly created post of Head Coach where
he will continue to work under the Directors of Coaching, Colin and Bernie,
but will now take full responsibilities for coaching decisions within
the gym itself.
George Dyankov, who has been assistant to Nikolai since Christmas, has
now been promoted to the Head Coach i/c Boys and Mens gymnastics. Our
congratulations to Plamen and George on their new positions.
NEW STAFF MEMBER
We are delighted to say, that following on from his very successful introduction
to the Club during Summer Camp, we have managed to procure ex-British
National Coach, and National Coach of Bulgaria, Vladimir Yanev who will
be joining us in mid-September, to cover Anca’s maternity leave.
Vladimir is one of the World’s most respected coaches and we are
extremely fortunate to be able to secure his services.
HOLIDAY BADGE COURSES
The summer badge courses were an outstanding success and were completely
sold out. Watch out for details of next year’s.
SUMMER CAMP
Summer camp was also a sell out this year so make sure that you book early
for Easter camp. Dates below!
NEW ARRIVAL
We are delighted to announce that on the 9th August, Ria gave birth to
a healthy 8lb 1 oz baby girl named Ruby. Ria has been in a couple of times
with Ruby who is absolutely delightful. Both Mum and Babe are doing well.
STOP PRESS!!!!
We have just received an e-mail from Ria who does not feel able to be
with us for the first Half of Term. Bernie has done her level best to
get last minute cover for the first week of Term, but please bear with
us at this very busy time.
THE RUSHMOOR ROUTE
This term sees the introduction of our very own RGA AWARD SCHEME.
The full details of this are displayed on the notice board that is opposite
the reception desk. This new and exciting development is being monitored
and administrated by Milena. It will give every child goals to reach and
aims and objectives which we think will stimulate increased efforts to
improve in all areas.
COMPETITIONS
We have only just got back and the competition season is on us already.
If you are in a competition squad and are due to be entering any competition,
do please get your entry fees paid immediately as many of the closing
dates are soon due.
THE ROSE BOWL 2008 25th/26th SEPTEMBER
Britain’s top Invitational is with us once again and what a line
up we have this year. We already have THREE NATIONAL TEAMS booked in including
the Great Britain team that are working towards the next Olympics in London.
South Africa are returning once again plus one of Canada’ s top
clubs and of course all of Britain’s top teams.
We had a reply today from the Ukraine National Team who hope to be with
us, and are planning on bringing two of their gymnasts who competed in
the Beijing Olympic Games.
How can you help? Firstly the organising committee has fallen in number
to just one ‘Colin’ who could do with a lot more assistance,
especially in the areas of catering, transporting teams, leotard sales
etc, etc. We could also really do with somebody to chase around and get
adverts for the programme. We run the best Invitational in Britain on
a shoestring and have never really cracked the advertising sales issue.
If you would like to help, see Colin right away. He will try not to bite
your hand off. There will be a list of jobs going up on the notice board
at the bottom of the stairs to the Dance Studio. Please volunteer your
services for this great event. WE MAKE RUSHMOOR PROUD!!!
CLUB TRACK SUITS AND HOODIES
We would like to place an order for these as soon as possible, so if you
would like to purchase one of these items, please let us know.
PARENTAL SUPERVISION
It should not be necessary to remind parents that while they are waiting
in the Café/ Bar area, they are responsible for the children who
are with them. We have had to get the new steam cleaned as so much food
had been dropped over the last Term. PLEASE DO SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN
PROPERLY.
We do wish to continue to up-grade the facility for your comfort. Please
respect it.
