This will be the last International on home ground for the British
Artistic
Gymnastics Team and it will give spectators a rare opportunity to
see live
the team who will defend the Union Jack's honour at the Sydney Olympic
Games
in September.
The names of the gymnasts who will compete in Rushmoor will be
officially
announced after the British Championships in Guildford July 7-9th.
"Our girls have not only stabilised their performances during
the process of
the team preparation at Lilleshall N.S.C. but they have also developed
further new skills, which for young ladies at 19-20 is not typical
in top
level gymnastics nowadays. Their motivation to do their best in
Sydney is
incredible !" said National Coach Zoltan Jordanov
The guest gymnasts from Belorussia will be eager to compensate
for their
disappointment at last year's World Championships (and Olympic
qualification) in Tianjin China, where they were beaten into 12th
position
by the British 11th.
The Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy has planned to use this event to
celebrate
the refurbishment of the former Aldershot Ice Rink and is now racing
against
time to finish the gymnasium so that the venue will be up and running
for an
event of this stature. The equipment will be supplied by GES especially
for
the competition.
Rushmoor Borough Council has been supportive of the Club over the
four years
that have been spent in realising the project, and the Officers
and Council
are pleased to welcome the Competitors and their guests.
Following the competition a reception and birthday party in honour
of the
senior coach Colin Wright (50) and his daughter Claire (21) who
has just
returned from Australia having won the World Cup in Synchronised
Trampolining. (The Party is by ticket invitation only)
